Responsible Gambling: What It Is About
In §§ 13 to 16, zákon č. 186/2016 Sb. provides that a gambling operator must equip players with tools and information that allow them to play safely. This applies to every operator, and Tipsport.net a.s. is no exception. The obligations cover offering financial and time limits, explaining the risks and the option of self-exclusion, and protecting minors.
The term responsible gambling itself refers to a conscious approach to play in which the player stays in control. The goal is to keep the risks of excessive gambling small and to prevent addiction. It cannot work without the player's own involvement: anyone who pays close attention to their behaviour will recognise warning signs early.
How to Tell When Gambling Is Slipping Out of Control
A gambling problem rarely arrives overnight; it tends to creep in gradually. Take notice if any of the following applies to you:
- Money: you spend more than you set for yourself, borrow to gamble or try to win back a loss with another bet (so-called chasing losses).
- Escalation: you gamble more and more often, or for bigger amounts.
- Responsibilities: you put off work, study or family because of gambling.
- Consequences: you carry on playing even though you already have debts or conflicts.
- Secrecy: you hide from the people close to you how much and how often you gamble.
- Mind and health: without gambling you feel restless, irritable or anxious, and your mental or physical health is suffering because of it.
If you notice these signs in yourself or in someone close to you, turn to the prevention tools or contact professionals.
An Overview of Responsible Gambling Tools
A player account with Tipsport Vegas contains tools that, under zákon č. 186/2016 Sb., serve to monitor and restrict gambling. All registered players have access to them.
- Time-out. A temporary exclusion from play for a period of your choice: 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days. While it runs, you cannot log in or take part in games; when it finishes, the account returns to normal.
- Deposit limit. The highest amount that can be sent to the gaming account per day, week or month. Once you reach it, you have to wait for the period to end before depositing again.
- Bet and loss limit. An upper boundary for the value of bets or net losses within the chosen period. Whoever reaches it cannot place another bet or continue playing.
- Time limit with reality check. The maximum playing time per day or week, combined with regular notifications about the time spent in the game.
A limit can be set, lowered or cancelled in the account. An increase only takes effect after a protection period, that is, after 24 hours at the earliest.
A Button for Stopping Play at Once
Sometimes gambling has to stop immediately, without further settings. That is what the panic button is for, and as a registered player you have it directly in the user interface.
Pressing the button excludes you from all gambling for 48 hours. The system automatically removes you from all of the operator's online platforms and, at that moment, offers you the chance to have yourself entered in the Register of Excluded Persons (RVO).
Offering this function has been mandatory since 1 July 2024 for operators of internet games and gaming halls; the obligation stems from zákon č. 186/2016 Sb.
Exclusion at Your Own Request
On the basis of § 16 and § 16b of zákon č. 186/2016 Sb., any player can ask to be excluded from gambling, either temporarily or for good. The request is made either in the user account or through the gambling operator.
An entry in the Register of Excluded Persons (RVO) applies to every gambling operator in the Czech Republic. Removal can be requested no sooner than one year after the entry was made.
The RVO: Consequences of an Entry and How to Apply
What an entry leads to
A person recorded in the Register of Excluded Persons (RVO) is barred from gambling with every licensed operator in the Czech Republic.
Ways to apply
In your user account with the operator, by confirming after activating the panic button, by a data box message addressed to the Ministry of Finance (Ministerstvo financí ČR), or in person at Czech POINT.
Who keeps the register and whom it lists
The Czech Ministry of Finance, under zákon č. 186/2016 Sb. Apart from people who have asked for exclusion, it records people excluded by law, for example those facing enforcement or insolvency proceedings or receiving certain benefits.
Gambling Is Not for Minors
Anyone who wants to gamble in the Czech Republic must be at least 18; this threshold is set by zákon č. 186/2016 Sb. The operator ensures the condition is met: at registration it verifies the age and identity of each player, for example through BankID or another method, and repeats the check when winnings are withdrawn. Participation by minors is strictly prohibited.
Check Your Own Gambling
The seven statements below are based on the PGSI index (Problem Gambling Severity Index). For each one, consider whether it applies to you.
- More money goes on gambling than I set in advance.
- I feel I should cut my gambling down.
- I feel guilty during or after gambling.
- I try to win my losses back by gambling again.
- Because of gambling I neglect duties or relationships.
- People close to me have said that I have a gambling problem.
- I have borrowed money to gamble.
If more than one statement applies to you, consider the prevention tools or contact specialists. This is a rough guide, not a professional diagnosis.
